Southwest Leather Conference 2010

Max and I spent last weekend in Phoenix at the Southwest Leather Conference. It was my first time in Phoenix, and a new convention for both of us. It was also my first time at a Master/slave focused event. We don’t identify that way, but our full-time D/s dynamic has a fair amount in common with many Master/slave relationships, and we were hoping to get some value out of the crossover educational subjects.

Some highlights:

- Whipmaster Bob and Bootpig’s two-part singletail whip workshop. I bought my first signal whip more than 6 months ago, and it’s been hanging in my closet ever since. I learned some fundamentals and basic throws, and I’m looking forward to practicing up a storm now that I’m more confident that I won’t hit myself in the face too often.

-A kickass (and unexpectedly sexy) scene with Max in the dungeon on Friday night. Yum.

- All the leather! Every room I walked into smelled amazing.

- A fantastic bootblack lounge. The bootblack let me watch up close while he did Max’s boots and answered all my questions, and then I got a turn in the chair for a luxuriously long treatment on my own boots.

- Dinner with Lolita, Boymeat, and Kathryn. They are so much fun!

- Running into a charming young man with whom I did a scene in 2008, and getting to know one another better over drinks.

- Tuning up and stepping up my level of protocol and service with Max. This is always nice to do out of town, when we can focus on each other, and the M/s-D/s flavor of the event made it a comfortable public dynamic.

We didn’t participate in the Dance of Souls, as we were prioritizing the education track, and I’m regretting that a little bit. This conference self-identifies as the most “woo-woo” event around; I’m inclined to agree, and I would probably have gotten a lot out of an energy pull in that setting.

Overall, while we had a fine time, this conference was not as good a fit for us as I had hoped. Despite our interest in the energetic connection between players, the con just wasn’t quite up our alley. Also, it rained the whole time. What the hell, Phoenix?
